Present Problems

India has only 2,000 charging points for 6 lakh vehicles on road. This disparity needs to be met
immediately.

80% of the EV charging is supposedly done at homes, but the existing condominiums changing
capabilities are inferior.

The charging requirements within The automobile industry in Indiaare not uniform.

AC Charger

Types of EV AC Chargers

  • Level 1 Chargers: These chargers use a standard 120-240V household outlet. They’re the slowest type of charger, usually adding about 4-5 miles of range per hour of charging. This makes them suitable for overnight charging of plug-in hybrid vehicles or for EV owners with minimal daily driving distances.
  • Level 2 Chargers: These are the most common type of residential and public chargers, using a 240V outlet (similar to large appliances like dryers). They can typically add 10-60 miles of range per hour of charging, making them much faster than Level 1 chargers.

Electrik Mobility AC chargers come with smart features that allow for:

  • Scheduling charging times to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates.
  • Monitoring energy usage.
  • Remote control via smartphone apps.

DC

Types of EV DC Chargers

  • CHAdeMO: This is a DC fast charging standard that originated in Japan. It’s used by many EVs, especially older models from Japanese manufacturers like Nissan.
  • CCS (Combined Charging System): This has become the standard in North America and Europe for many new EVs. It supports both AC and DC charging through the same port, with two additional pins for the DC charging.
  •  Tesla Supercharger: Designed specifically for Tesla vehicles, these chargers are part of Tesla’s proprietary network and are typically not compatible with other EVs without an adapter.
  • GB/T: This is a standard used primarily in China for both AC and DC charging.

Charging Power and Speed

  • Typical Power Range: DC chargers can range from around 50 kW, which are often found in urban areas and are suitable for a quick top-up, to 350 kW and higher, which are the ultra-fast chargers that can add significant range in just minutes.
  • Charging Speed: Unlike AC chargers, DC fast chargers can charge an EV’s battery to 80% in as little as 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the charging station’s power output and the vehicle’s maximum charging rate.
